Episode 14: It’s Baaaaaack!

All links to Ravelry are labelled as such. I try to include links to outside websites as much as possible. At this time, I am not including links for purchasing yarns, needles, etc. If I do, they will also be appropriately labelled. As a quick reminder: I am not affiliated with any businesses. If you’d like to show your support of the podcast, please rate and review on your listening device, follow me on instagram, and / or join the ravelry discussion group (ravelry link) if it is safe for you to do so.

Life On The Road – 01:24

MHK Level 1 Submission came back! The feedback was very positive overall. Some of my quirks as a scholarly writer were definitely on display, such as a tendency to get bogged down with too much explanations. I also need to find some additional sources for some of the techniques.

Recently, I encountered an old college roommate who let me know that her folks were looking for a good home to send an old Union Floor Loom. This piece of American industry and history is now happily in my yarn room. Fiber people really are the best people.

Unboxing – 05:41

Editor Peggy note: Hey Ya’ll. As a reminder, absolutely NONE of this show, or these links are sponsored. At all. I make zero income from any of the companies or organizations that I mention. I receive no benefits from any of the links I post. I am including these links solely for the benefit of You, dear listener.

This episode I had the pleasure of opening the July Knitcrate for the Knit and Crochet Club. They promised me a ‘WOW’ factor, and they delivered. To my mailbox. I received two skeins of Uru.yarn Electric in the colorway ‘Rave’. This yarn is 137 m (150 yards) of eye catching combination of neon blue and black in two scrumptious plys. The fiber content is 40% Alpaca, 30% Wool and 30% Suri Alpaca, and is soft as a fresh baby’s butt. The little bonus item is an adorable resin and glitter heart shaped key-ring charm with vibrant pink yellow and teal glitter. Do not worry, the glitter is encased in the resin.

For a variety of reasons, the booklet of patterns and information included in each Knitcrate was solely in digital format for this shipment. I used the computer that I carry around in my pocket to scan the included code and download the booklet.

Open Throttle – 13:20

This episode, I am delighted to share more MHK content! Out of the 18 swatches for level 1, I only have to re-submit five. Swatches 2, 6, 8, 16, and 18. I expected 3 of those, and was pleasantly surprised that I only have to re-make two more. I have already completed the knitting on swatches 2 and 18. Swatch 2 is being made in Patons Classic Wool Worsted in the ‘Aran’ colorway. The rest are being made in Patons Classic Wool Worsted in the ‘Duck Egg Blue’ colorway. I am also tasked with correcting or providing more/ more accurate information on eight Swatch Information Sheets.

Chandelure socks (ravelry link) from Operation Sock Drawer, are absolutely finished. And that means you can expect a bonus episode in your feed. I will be updating the pictures on my ravelry project page soon.

I finally have a project name for the vintage sweater I am making. It is now known as ‘The Phenomenal Sweater’. I have had to change to 3.75 mm (US size 5) needles.

The spinning on the Rambouillet fleece is still going. As I postulated in the previous episode, I did decide to give the fleece an additional wash. I am glad I did, because the wash-water was very dirty. I am going to have to be very careful because fleece is very prone to felting.

Sunshine: Making yarn gremlins of all of us. – 22:10

Stalled – 22:27

MHK knitting is once again featured in Stalled. Swatch 6 gave me some… issues. On the original swatch, I executed the technique of the left-leaning increase correctly the first time, and then somehow incorrectly the other four times. I do not know how I managed that. My first attempt at re-making this swatch was completely wrong, so at least I was consistent. It turns out that every source I used for this technique ONLY showed the right-leaning increase. And that, in a nutshell, is probably why I messed up so oddly.

Unfortunately, this has presented quite a conundrum for me to constantly ruminate on. Have you ever experienced something that you just keep coming back to? A problem that you just … wrestle with for a while? Let me know in the comments!
