Episode 82: Bring on the Summer!

All links to Ravelry are labelled as such. I try to include links to outside websites as much as possible. At this time, I am not including links for purchasing yarns, needles, etc. If I do, they will also be appropriately labelled. As a quick reminder: I am not affiliated with any businesses.

Fiber Fuckery: You Decide. – 1:53

Open Throttle – 2:12

I have a theory – lower-case ‘t’, I have almost no evidence to support this theory. It’s not like gravity ore evolution or something – that Cheryl Toy, designer of the “Rainbow Siddal Socks” (ravelry link), called the heel method in her design a ‘strong’ heel because it doesn’t have a heel flap and therefore does not rely on picked up stitches or a seam to hold the heel together. I have not been able to confirm this theory at this time, but I have reached out to the designer for actual answers.

I finished the weaving on Mr. Kickass’ “Not a Lielvarde Belt” (ravelry link). I have more length than I expected, but I think Mr. Kickass will carry it well. I have been using videos by Tablet Weaving in Theory and Practice for guidance. Check out her playlist on creating a belt! Videos 62 through 67 are my primary guidance for finishing my belt.

I may be jumping ahead of myself a bit, but I have also been working on a sample for a piece of trim for my own rennfaire costume. Even though I haven’t even started making the piece the trim will go on. Finishing comes first, right?

Stalled – 15:06

The “Not a Lielvarde” belt was not all fun. The third repeat of the design ‘Baltic #1’ by Trifolio.0, available on Twisted Threads was a struggle. Unpicking and re-weaving the same sections over and over again for 5 days led to my weft thread breaking!

Besties: Making *~*Magic*~* Happen – 20:40

Scenic Route – 20:51

I completely neglected to mention the house plants, but I have a new Plant ICU set up that involves an aquarium bubble stone for growing roots without the risk of root rot. It has been amazing. I have had two complete 180 cases. They went from being on death’s door to new growth and thriving.

And then I found a very venomous spider making her home in an olla for my rose bush outside! Looked down and saw her glossy, black, GIGANTIC abdomen just right there! Spiders that are shiny, black, with a thicc back means Black Widow spider where I live. I’m not sure the exact species, forgive me for not getting close enough to what was clearly a mother guarding an egg-sack to find out.

Cock Co-Zee: So You’re Always Ready To Whip It Out! – 23:38

It should come as no surprise to the listeners of this podcast that the individual liberties of Americans are currently under assault. However, in positive news, I wanted to share this article from Pink News from July 22nd that details that for every anti-trans bill that passes in the U.S. over 5 more fail. I wanted to reiterate that our actions aren’t pointless. Keep it up. Keep calling and writing and showing up in meetings. Stay engaged as you can, because we are slowing the tide of vile rhetoric about our bodies, our lives, and our very souls.
